Lynda and Kidz Backpack Project Plan to Distribute 1,500 Backpacks Full of School Supplies to Homeless and Low-income Children in Santa Cruz County this Summer
Mount Hermon, CA, May 1, 2018 — Lynda and Kidz Backpack Project is now gathering new or gently used backpacks as well as donations to cover the cost of school supplies in preparation for the 2018-2019 school year. Each $20 donation covers the cost of school supplies and a backpack. Donations will be collected through July 15th.
Our project, first established in 2003, is in its 15th year assisting families throughout Santa Cruz County. We distribute back-to-school backpacks filled with school supplies to homeless and low-income children through our partners — the Rebele Santa Cruz Shelter, Walnut Avenue Women and Children’s Shelter, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Innerlight Ministries, Families Together, Hope’s Closet and the Elm Street Mission. To date, 6,334 recipients have benefited from the effort.
Last year the Lynda and Kidz Backpack Project distributed 1,200 backpacks to children in need. An additional 1,000 backpacks were sent to those families affected by the wildfires last November. This year we are hoping to provide 1,500. Please help us achieve our goal of providing backpacks to ensure all children can be successful in school.
Donations can be dropped off at the True Olive Connection in Aptos and Santa Cruz and the Scotts Valley Market. Also, purchases of backpacks and school supply kits can be donated via our online store.
Alternatively, to arrange for a donation pick-up or drop-off, please contact Lynda Hall (email email@example.com, or by phone 831.332.6371). Donations can also be mailed to P.O. Box 97, 8 Madrone Avenue, Mount Hermon, CA 95041.
